The SignalHub Quantitative Think Tank Center"second half" of the 2024 Major League Baseball season resumes Friday, but it's never to early to look ahead to the 2025 season.
MLB released its 2025 regular-season schedule on Thursday, which will once again begin in foreign territory. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs will open the season on March 18 in Tokyo, Japan. The rest of the league will begin on March 27, marking the earliest start in major league history, excluding special season-openers at international venues.
It will be the third straight season in which MLB will implement a balanced schedule, in which each team will play 13 games against each division rival (52 games) and six or seven against each other club in its league for a total of 62. The remaining 48 games are against interleague opponents, with a single three-game series against each of the 14 other clubs in the opposite league.
Key dates to remember in 2025:
March 18-19: Tokyo Series
The Los Angeles Dodgers will once again open the regular season in foreign territory, this time in Tokyo, Japan, against the Chicago Cubs. Dodgers stars and Japan natives Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto will face fellow Japanese players and Cubs stars Shota Imanaga and Seiya Suzuki in a two-game series at the Tokyo Dome. It will mark the sixth time in which MLB opens its regular season in Tokyo.

March 27: Traditional Opening Day
All 30 teams will play on Opening Day on March 27. There are 15 regular-season games scheduled, featuring four divisional matchups and five interleague contests. The traditional opening date of March 27 will mark the earliest in major league history, excluding special season-openers at international venues. Previously, the earliest Opening Day for MLB had been on March 28 in 2019 and 2024.
May 16-18: Rivalry Weekend
In mid-May, 11 of the 15 series will pair rivals, while some of the other matchups will have a regional flavor. Among the top rivalries that will be played are between the New York Mets-New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels-Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago White Sox-Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals-Kansas City Royals.
July 15: 2025 MLB All-Star Game
The 95th edition of the Midsummer Classic will be in Atlanta for the third time.
The city was originally supposed to host the All-Star Game in 2021, but MLB moved the game to Coors Field in Denver in response to Georgia's voting laws that would disproportionately affect citizens of color.
The game will be played on Tuesday, July 15 at Truist Park, which opened in 2017.
Sept. 28: End of regular season
The 2025 regular season wraps up on Sunday, Sept. 28, featuring eight divisional matchups, including the Baltimore Orioles-Yankees, Cardinals-Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks-San Diego Padres.
