3-year-old drowns in Kansas pond after he was placed in temporary foster care

ANDOVER, Kan. (AP) — A 3-year-old boy wandered off and drowned after he was placed into temporary foster care with relatives at a rural Kansas home, authorities said Tuesday.
The boy was reported missing Saturday from the home just outside of Andover, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Authorities were told that the child went missing while playing outside as an adult was doing yard work. Drones, divers and police dogs searched the heavily wooded property until the boy was found Sunday morning in a pond near the home.
The regional forensic science center confirmed that the cause of death was accidental drowning, the sheriff’s office said.
